The "Sweet Spot" is July to September. This aligns the peak of the Great Migration in the Masai Mara with the dry season in the rainforests of Uganda and Rwanda, making trekking trails safer and less slippery.

January to February is also an excellent alternative for clear skies and lush scenery, though you will miss the Mara river crossings during this period.

We recommend booking 6 to 12 months in advance. Gorilla permits are strictly limited to 8 people per family per day and sell out a year ahead for peak months.

As a licensed operator, we handle the "permit scramble" directly with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) or Rwanda Development Board (RDB) to secure your spot immediately upon confirmation.

Gorilla permits are fixed at $800 in Uganda and $1,500 in Rwanda.

A combined 7–10 day safari typically ranges between $4,500 and $10,000+ per person. The final price depends on your choice of bush-flights vs. driving, and whether you prefer "Classic Comfort" or "Ultra-Luxury" lodges.

The trek is rated Moderate to Strenuous. You may hike for 2 to 8 hours through thick vegetation and steep, muddy terrain at high altitudes.

However, it is accessible to most people with average fitness. We recommend hiring a local porter ($20) to assist you with your gear and provide balance on the slopes—it is the best way to support the local community.

For the Mara: Lightweight, neutral-colored clothing (khaki/olive), a wide-brimmed hat, and high-zoom binoculars. Avoid blue or black clothing as it attracts Tsetse flies.

For the Gorillas: Waterproof hiking boots, gardening gloves (to grab branches), and long socks to tuck your trousers into. Note: All flights have a strict 15kg limit in soft-sided duffel bags.

The minimum age is 15 years old in both Uganda and Rwanda. This is a strictly enforced conservation rule to protect the gorillas from childhood diseases and ensure the safety of all trekkers.

For a seamless "Bush to Jungle" experience, we recommend 8 to 11 days. This allows 3 days in the Masai Mara, a transition day for cross-border travel, and 3-4 days in the gorilla highlands without feeling rushed.
